How to hire the right plumber

There are many steps involved in finding and hiring a local plumber. First, it’s a prudent first step to consult with family and friends. Is there anyone you know who’s used a plumber recently? If so, what kind of plumber? When investigating a referral for a good plumber, it is always a good idea to speak with multiple past customers. Try googling the plumber’s name for additional info, possibly even a legal history. Ask your friends what type of work he did for them – there’s a difference between a plumber who is brought in for repairs, and a plumber who conducts major remodeling and renovation projects. A plumber who is qualified for one might not be so experienced in the other. Some plumbers specialize in gas or pipe fitting, some also do HVAC work, for air conditioning installation and repair. There’s all types!

A good second step is to use one of many online referral systems, to compare free quotes, though with the understanding that it might not always be the best idea to go with the cheapest. Above all, do not be intimidated! Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

Why you should work with a general contractor for home remodeling.

When remodeling your home, you might be tempted to cut costs. One of the first ideas that springs to many people’s minds is cutting out the general contractor and trying to manage the whole thing themselves. This can be a huge mistake. Most major remodeling or renovating requires the specialties of more than one trade. For example, if you’re remodeling your kitchen, then a licensed plumbing contractor is definitely going to be on the list. But so will the painter, the flooring specialist, and the drywall contractor. You need a qualified general contractor to be the conductor to your symphony of home improvement. A good general contractor already has a network of his preferred subcontractors, people he knows he can work with, and, more importantly, can work with each other.

To successfully complete a major residential remodeling or building contract (and by successful, I mean timely and at a price close to the quoted one), you require a general contractor who can carefully plan, manage, and oversee what is likely to be an extremely time consuming process, one that you really don’t have the time, money or energy to learn by trial and error. Hiring a general contractor will ultimately save you much money and grief.

Solar Water Heaters

Sometimes you just gotta save money, and there's really no better way to do it than using a solar water heater. Solar water heaters can really reduce your bills, but only if installed properly, by a certified and licensed plumber.

Solar water heaters save you money in a variety of ways. First there's the obvious drop in your heating bills. Let the sun take care of it for you! Next, there's the frequently significant tax benefits. Tax credits and rebates vary by city and county, so make sure you find out exactly what you're eligible for. It could be up to $2,000!

Solar water heaters are either electric, which is called photovoltaic (PV), or solar thermal, which is a water heating system.
